District Announcements

District Report Card:

The Holbrook district report card is now available.  It contains information about student achievement, accountability, how our schools are performing relative to other schools, and the progress our district is making toward narrowing proficiency gaps for different groups of students.

The district’s report card may be found on the Department of Elementary & Secondary Education website: http://profiles.doe.mass.edu.

The report cards are also available below:

THE
HOLBROOK PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT
HAS EARNED

STATUS!

The unfailing efforts of the students, teachers, staff and administration of the Holbrook Public Schools have enabled the District to achieve this unprecedented accomplishment.  The support of the parents and School Committee provided the continuous encouragement and financial resources essential to attaining this success.

The 2013-2014 school year was marked with personnel re-deployment and programmatic changes that were calculated and deliberate.  A new Curriculum Director, Reading Coordinator/Instructional Specialist, strategic mathematics teacher assignments, supplementary mathematics classes, and an enhanced Bulldog Academy contributed to the District’s improvement.  Faculty and staff diligently applied themselves throughout the year aligning curriculum to the approved standards and ensuring that students mastered the identified critical skills and concepts.

Established by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) scores for students in grades 3 through 10 determine the District’s rating.  Based on its lowest ranked school, a district is labeled Level 1 through Level 5 with Level 1 designating the top performing districts or schools.  Individually, the schools are ranked: John F. Kennedy – Level 2; South – Level 1; and the Junior-Senior High – Level 2.  The 2013-2014 MCAS scores were exceptional since the status rating is determined on the basis of the current scores plus a three-year “look back.”  Therefore, this year’s rating is also affected by the previous three years of data.

Although we are proud of this achievement, we are not satisfied with Level 2 status.  Continuous improvement is our goal and we will not settle for less than Level 1 status.  On November 4, 2014, the Holbrook taxpayers will have the opportunity to join in recognizing the students’ remarkable performance and assisting them in achieving Level 1 status by providing an adequate, tremendously improved educational environment; the new Pre-K to grade 12 building, equipped with 21
st Century technology and resources, will enhance the educational experience and opportunities for all Holbrook students.

Lost and Found

Did you ever wonder where your child’s lunchbox went? How about a winter coat or mittens? Missing a hat or sweatshirt? Wonder no more. It is probably in the Kennedy School Lost and Found. The cold weather is upon us and the rack is filled with various items!

Please come to the school and check the rack located in the front lobby. Small items are in bins on top.

Reminder - it is helpful if you mark your child's belongings with his/her name so they can be returned to them when misplaced at school.
