Student Attendance

attendance matters

Students are required to attend school on a daily basis. If your child will be absent from school, please call the school absence line at
781-767-4600, extension #2.
We ask that you to leave your child's name and reason for his/her absence. If the school is not notified by 10:00 AM,
a member of the office staff will contact you to inquire about your child’s absence from school.

Excused Absences
Excused absences are those absences that are accompanied by documentation. Documentation may include: medical appointments, religious holidays, death of a family member, court appearances, orthodontist/dental appointments, or illness supported by a physician. Please provide the main office with the documentation so the absence can be labeled "EXCUSED" in Aspen, our student information system.

Unexcused Absences
Unexcused absences include those without a medical note, family vacations, or illness/absences without a physician’s note.

Tardy Students
Students are expected to be in their classrooms by 8:45 AM. Almost all tardiness is avoidable. Not only does tardiness disrupt the routine of the school/classroom , but it also endangers the best development of the child. A habit of punctuality demonstrates reliability. Lack of such a habit cannot help but work against the success of the student. Students who arrive to school at 8:46 AM or after are considered TARDY and must be escorted into school accompanied by a parent/guardian. Upon arrival, the parent/guardian will be required to sign their child in with main office.

Student Dismissals
If a student is going to be dismissed from school, a note from the parent/guardian indicating the reason why and the time is required. For safety reasons, a student will not be allowed to leave the school without a parent/guardian OR an adult that has been designated by the parent/guardian. School personnel will request identification from the person calling for the student. No dismissals will be made after 2:30 without a note.

Please Note
According to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, a student must be at school for at least half the school day to be counted as present. Therefore, students must arrive to school by 11:45 AM to be marked present for the partial day. Students must be dismissed after 11:45 AM to be marked as present for the partial day.
