MCAS Information
Students educated with Massachusetts public funds are required by federal laws and the 1993 Massachusetts Education Reform Law, state law M. G. L. Chapter 69, section 1I, to participate in statewide testing.
Every student in Grades 3-10 attending a Massachusetts public school takes MCAS (Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System) tests. The subjects tested vary by grade. These tests help teachers, parents, and students know where students are excelling and where they need help.
At JFK, students in Grades 3, 4, & 5 participate in ELA (English Language Arts) and Mathematics MCAS testing. Students in Grade 5 also take the STE (Science & Technology/Engineering) MCAS test.
The students, teachers, specialists, and support staff have worked hard to prepare for this high stakes test. Please make sure that your child gets plenty of rest by going to bed early the night before each test. Encourage your child to eat a healthy, well-balanced breakfast before school on the day of each test. Most importantly, please make sure that your child arrives at school on time each day.
Parents should, as always, continue to offer their child/children words of encouragement and praise. Each and every one of our students in Grades 3 through 5 have put forth a fine effort in practicing their reading, writing, and math skills. We, at the John F. Kennedy School, hope that you will join us in ensuring that our students are well rested, alert, and motivated to do their personal best work on the MCAS test.
