Student Report Cards

Report Card Grading Schedule

The John F Kennedy School has trimester scheduling. A trimester system divides the academic year into three sessions: fall, winter, and spring. Each trimester is approximately 60 school days. At the end of each trimester, report cards are distributed to students in Grades Kindergarten - 5. Report cards will be distributed to students on Tuesday, December 5, 2023Monday, March 25, 2024, and the last day of school in June 2024.

A trimester schedule provides a number of instructional benefits, including the following:

  • Provides more time for students to learn and demonstrate proficiency within a grading period.
  • Provides extended time at beginning of the year for students to acclimate to new school, classroom and schedule before the first report cards of the school year are finalized.
  • Provides more time for teachers and parents to collaborate, identify and address areas of concern during the grading period.
  • Provides more time for teaching and learning, due to the reduced time required for formal assessment at the end of a grading period with fewer grading periods.
  • Provides more flexibility for teachers to pace curriculum and ensure student understanding.

Report Card Format

Report cards are standards-based. Standards-based grading is a system that evaluates students' progress toward mastering specific learning targets called standards. Standards-based grading reflects consistent patterns of performance. That means that when it comes to a particular skill, how often is a student able to perform that skill at the expected level without assistance? If a student is doing this regularly, then he/she is meeting the standard.
